Helping Someone Who Is Suicidal

Helping Someone Who Is Suicidal
Helping someone who is having suicidal thoughts can be difficult. It can be hard to know what to say or how to say it. But you do not always need to have all the answers and you shouldn't expect to make them happy.

There are things that you can do:
  • Listen and really focus on what they are saying.
  • Let the person know you are there for them and want to help.
  • Let the person lead the conversation.
  • Offer to help connect them with any additional support if needed.
  • Take them seriously.
  • Do not judge.
  • Give them time.
Just knowing that someone is there and someone cares can help.
